The Mitchell Report....
Have you heard about it?
It is a report the came out Thursday about the widespread use of steroids in Major League Baseball (MLB).
Disturbing news to say the least...
What bothers me and hopefully you as an athlete or parent is that it is not only in MLB. Unless you hibernate you are well aware that this happens in high school and college sports as well. I have many friends who coach at the high school level and are well aware their athlete's use them to get ready for the season. I also have too many friends who played college level sports and laugh about steroid use. 'Everyone takes them. Even the girls' is a comment from one buddy of mine.
They are aware of this, but do NOTHING about it.
Why?
Because it makes THEM look better when the kids are big and strong. It makes THEM look better if they start winning...What I am saying is, it has NOTHING to do with the athlete when it comes to coaches either knowing or promoting the use of performance enhancemnet drugs.
As an athlete or parent I beg you to report ANYONE who suggests steroid use or any other illegal performance enhancement supplement(many are not permitted by your state athletic committees)
Report them immediately. Let them sit in jail and think about their actions. The use of steroids can lead to depression, in many cases suicide and aggressive behavior which in turn can lead to murder.
Some of this may sound harsh, but it is a horrible reality that is part of our young athlete's lives and you or a loved one needs to know about the reality of steroid use in athletics.
Thank you for your time and talk to your friends and loved ones TODAY about steroid use.
In Good Health,
Barry

We Can Make A Difference
We live in a strange time when it comes to sports. All too often when you turn on ESPN to get the latest sports news you are instead bombarded with the latest arrest reports and jail sentences for today’s athletes, not to mention all the talk of steroid usage. It’s a real shame, especially for our young people. There was a time when professional athletes were the heroes in our society. Those days are long gone and the heroes are few and far between. I fully understand that a professional athlete is paid to play the sport well and not to be someone for us to look up to, but still, it is nice when it happens.
All of this being said; I know that sports can be a wonderful thing. I’ve been an athlete, I’ve coached athletes and now I have the absolute pleasure of training athletes. This last year has been incredible. I’ve trained literally hundreds of volleyball players, college and high school level, and I’ve met incredible athletes and parents. I never knew that my training would lead me to volleyball but I’m so thankful that it has. It is by far the most positive athletic environment I’ve ever been involved with.
So I ask all of the athletes that I have the pleasure of coming into contact with and all the others reading this to keep up the good work. I ask you to keep the true spirit of sports alive with teamwork, focus, a good work ethic and good sportsmanship. At least in our own communities, we can make sports good again.
